Hi all,

We're testing WinXP here at the school where I work, and trying to hide Manage on the context menu of My Computer, see Hide Computer Management Option

We have a Novell environment here, so first you log in to the Novell server, and then locally on the computer. Although we use different usernames for the Novell login, we use one single login locally, with computer administrator rights.

Here's the problem: When I log on as one Novell user I get the restriction, but when I log in as another Novell user I don't. How can that be? Shouldn't the restriction only restrict the local user and therefor using different Novell users shouldn't affect it at all?

Regards, Per

You've set it up on current user which only affects the user that is logged in at the time. Don't know if Novell would affect that.

I don't know if this work but you could try modifying the following keys. Please backup the registry before making any changes.

Local machine change:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies

Default for all new users:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies

Thanks for the quick reply, Andy-S.

I should've mentioned that I also tried changing the HKLM value as well, but with the same result. Tomorrow (I'm at home now, unable to test it) I will try your tip 'bout HKEY_USERS though, I hope it works.

The funny thing about it is that it's the same local user on the machine, so I figured the registry settings would be the same no matter what user is being logged in to Novell... correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Regards,
Per
