I made the mistake of booting up my laptop with two hard disks in it, each of which had a fully installed version of W2K Server on it. Since Win2k uses the first disk it finds as a system drive and then goes looking for another drive to boot from I wound up with a confused laptop that could not find anything. I realized my mistake and removed the second drive. Now Windows can't find the pagefile. When I try to log on, it tells me to create a pagefile and then logs me off, even in Safe mode. Neat?

How do I get around this?

I don't think that just booting up with 2 drives with a fully installed OS would cause the problems you are seeing. Did you do any installs or changes to the system once it was booted up?

Try putting both drives back in and creating a pagefile on C: (the drive you want to keep).

I made no changes to either drive before or after discovering the problem.

I went to to the Virtual Memory window, expecting to create a pagefile on the c: drive, and it showed that there is already a page file on the c: drive. I reversed the drives and got the same effect. In each case, the secondary drive shows no pagefile, but when you try to create one it askes if you want to relace the existing pagefile on that drive.

Is it me?

What's the exact error message that is displayed?
