well my problem is that for some reason my internet explorer has just suddenly stopped displaying pictures. I dont mean it doesnt display any pictures at all, but for some reason on certain sites all the pictures have a red x on them, but on a different computer they all show up and like a couple weeks ago it would display them fine. Also i have aol mail and now when i try to check my mail on the internet it says page cannot be displayed and i have to go to aol.com just to get it to work b4 i could just login and it would go straight to my e-mail. The last problem i have noticed is that now when search on yahoo or something some of the links dont work because for some reason it adds an rd in front of the web address. so for example i click a link and the real address would b http://yahoo.com/blah/blah/blah but for some reason it changes to http://rd.yahoo.com/blah/blah/blah and i have to erase the rd. to get to the site. What's wrong? help please

First, go to Internet Options > General tab, Teporary Internet Files, and hit "delete files". Also press "delete history".

Now there are three things you should check:

1) On the View menu in IE, point to Encoding , and then click Western European (Windows).

2) Verify that Show Pictures has not been disabled:

- On the Tools menu, click Internet Options .
- Click the Advanced tab, and then verify that the Show Pictures check box is selected under Multimedia .
- Click OK .

3) Restore Default Associations for Graphics File Types :

Go to Folder Options/File Types, and make sure that the following file types are associated by default with Microsoft Internet Explorer (Iexplore.exe):
ART image (.art)
GIF image (.gfa, .gif)
JPEG image (.jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg)

4) If you have Norton Firewall or NIS installed, uninstall and reinstall the program.

And here's a MS article:

Tony, When you say "associated with" do you mean "open with"? All my graphic files are set to open with VuePrint (my graphics viewer).

No, quite the contrary /images/forums/icons/smile.gif. There is a known issue when installing SP1 for IE (not SP1 for XP) that causes some .gif images to be intermittently displayed as red x's. This doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen to many. MS is aware of the issue and there is no fix available.

Now - as for SP1 for XP, that's another issue. I do recommend installing it because of all of the issues it addresses - but it is unlikely it will have any effect on the image problem. Sorry.
