Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. One of my users downloaded a .bmp file. Now when he does the ctrl-alt-del, the background wall paper is the .bmp file which somehow got downloaded. I tried changing the windows blue background on my test machine and I cant figure out how to do it. Is this a reg hack. Or is there a way to change it manually. I figured if I can change the background on my test machine, then I can find where this .bmp is located and change it.
Thank you

If you are using Active desktop that can happen. First turn off active desktop, that bitmap should now show up. Now select none for your background. Now turn the active desktop back on to get the background you want. I actually set mine up to display the second screen on purpose. I edited my registry so my login screen matches the screen that displays when you ctr+alt+del. It now displays a large backlit AMD Athlon logo.

Thanks the dude, Is there a link that you could point me too to tell me how this is done, I mean editing the registry so that the My log on screen and background wall paper are the same. Thanks

No prob, for the log on screen you go to
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
look for the key Wallpaper and modify the value data to equal the path to the bitmap file you want to use ex: c:\winnt\mylogo.bmp
Also look for "Tilewallpaper" 1=tiled 0=centered or stretched.
"WallpaperStyle" 2=stretched 0=tiled or centered.
Have fun. I am 99% sure I got this info from this site, but I haven't had good luck linking to some pages if they are to many levels deep so I just typed it in.

If you really want customize win 2k you can change the boot up screen also, check this out.

I have don it on my rig, I have a nice AMD logo for the boot screen. If I wanted I could have 3 separate screens come up not counting my desktop image while windows loads. Make sure you back up your NTOSKRNL.exe before you hack it. And don't try to use an image with more than 16 colors or larger than 640 by 480. I used irfanview to modify the bitmap file I wanted to use.
