Hello all you experts:
I'm in need of some help. I support a small network running NT4 servers and 95/98 clients.
This past couple of months, 2 of my 98 machine began doing a floppy drive search during network log in. One is my own and the other is the CEO's.
After typing in network password and clicking OK button, the Floppy drive will run and then desktop screen shows up. One user on one of the machines runs a log on script. The other does not run a log on script. However the log on script only sets up net work drives and has no instruction for floppy drive. Many of my other users run the script as well but their floppy drive dos not do a random search.
I suspect my network is compromised. Do any of you have any idea why the floppy drive would search during a network log in?
I have noticed this happened after adding a network printer. My network printer is an HP Laserjet4 connected to a 98 client. Few days after adding this printer, the floppy drive problem began. I've noticed my log in a slower as well even in the morning when there are no users on. I've a total of about 50 Win 95/98 clients on NT4 domain.
This Win 98 print server has a Zone Alarm software firewall. I've noticed for the past year that it has been getting hits from IP numbers located over seas. They are hitting my client on port 80. However I am also behind a corporate firewall, running Watchguard Firebox.
I don't understand why this particular print server is getting scanned on port 80 so much from IP numbers of seas. Supposedly my Firebox should be keeping this out but some how it is slipping past.
I suspect this may be related to my floppy drive runing when logging in to the network.
Help!!
Thanks.
