After installing Winguides Tweak manager and using some of the tweaks for Windows Explorer, the explorer will error and terminate (bringing down some other applications with it).
Originally I thought the problem was related to a MS patch I had recently applied. After changing the tweaks back to the way they were originally, and uninstalling Winguides tweak manager, the problem disappeared.

hmmmm... That doesn't make sense. Exactly which tweaks did you apply exactly? and which applications were "brought down". Ive worked with WTM extensively and have never had any problems with it at all!

I enabled the Windows Explorer attributes settings.
One other tweak I applied was Automatically end hung applications.
As far as what other applications crashed with explorer, they were all ones that run in the system tray...one of them for sure was Palm HotSync

I duplicated your efforts with no adverse effects.
Maybe there's a conflict with WTM (although I doubt it) and another program already running. You could try to further isolate the problem by letting only one program run with WTM and then move to the next program etc...
