At work we're migrating to windows XP Pro, and have been advised by our networks department that the switches we're currently running (Cisco catalyst 5000 series) cannot handle the Authenitcation requests from Windows XP at startup. Apparently when "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network" is checked on the Authentication tab of the properties of the network card it causes the machine to broadcast packets at startup, which in turn could affect/take down a switch or V-Lan. This is a known and recognised bug from Cisco.
There are two choices for a fix to this issue: either we disable this option on all XP machines on the LAN or else networks upgrade the code on their switches (which they don't want to do since we will shortly be moving to a new building with new kit running the latest firmware - ie there's no way that's happening!!).
My question is basically How can I automate the unchecking of the tick box on the authentication tab? It appears to be some kind of guid based key in the registry which means the methods i'd normally use (zenworks or a .reg file in the unattended build's cmdlines.txt) won't work!

Any tips greatfully received!!

Cheers,

MArk.
