I am running WIN2K on a computer that has on-motherboard sound by Avance. The machine has run well for about 2 months, but all of a sudden it is having a problem with the audio. About 1 out of every 3 times I boot up, Windows "detects new hardware" for a multimedia audio controller and wants to install a driver. If I cancel out of the New Hardware Wizard and reboot, everything works fine.

I have tried installing the latest drivers for the motherboard and for the audio. No change.

I have checked the Admin Tools/Computer Manager and found the "multimedia audio controller" and "PCI simple communications controller" listed under Problem Devices, both with an error code of 1, whatever that means.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
