My right click menu is very slow. It takes 8-10 seconds for the options to appear. I have tried PC Booster, WinGuides Tweak Manager, and Xteq Setup. None of them will correct the problem. I did not have any problems until I installed a Creative PCI512 soundcard (which has been removed and destroyed).

Hi,

McAfee VirusScan has been observed to cause this problem.

If that's your antivirus, open Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\Tvd\Shared Components\On Access Scanner\Mcshield\Configuration..

Double-click on the ScannerThreadTimeout and change the value to eight f 's (ffffffff)

Close and restart VShield.

Cheers, Tony

I am using Norton 2003. I can disable everything in the startup menu and it still does it.....

D_B,

Have a look at these two Google links:
slow right click</font color=red> (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%22slow+right+click%22><font)
And
right click menu slow</font color=red> (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22right+click+menu%22%2Bslow><font)

Good luck,

Tony, What does changing to 8 f's do?
Reduce the time?

I do not have the specified key. Mine is as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\TVD\Shared Components\On Access Scanner\Vshield\System Scan\DetectionOptions]
"bProgFileHeuristics"=dword:00000001
"uScannerThreadTimeout"=dword:00030000

This key contains many more items besides what is shown.
