I noticed in C:\Windows\Cookies that my Win98se registration name is attached to the beginning of the name of the Cookie (i.e., xyz abcde@www.winguides[1].txt). Is there a way to keep my name from being associated with the Cookie? And, Is my name being sent out each time I visit that URL?

I'm not sure. Maybe changing the registration name into a dummy is an option. You can easily do it with X-Setup for instance.
Or...
Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion.
To change the values of the RegisteredOrganization, RegisteredOwner, or ProductId, simply double-click on them.
Note: This will only change the registered user information for Windows, not for the applications on your system.

Gernot...Thanks for the response...As a very novice user can you explain what is X-Setup? I am also very skitish about going into the Registry to make changes as I don't relish having to reinstall WIN98 if I screw it up. Is there a fool-proof method of making changes to the Registry? Maybe I am dreaming there? Can't hurt to ask! Thanks again..Chief

Chief,
X-setup is tweak tool, which is very useful for different purposes. Download it from http://www.xteq.com/downloads/
I don't know any fool-proof method of making changes to the registry. WIN98 has at least 5 backups of your registry available. But if you use X-Setup you don't have to tweak your registry at this stage. If it can do for you what you want I'm not sure. Try it out and post back if it works and when you need more information.

X-setup is the best, most comprehensive, most powerful tweaking utility that I know of. While I heartily (and frequently) recommend it, it must be noted that such tools can be dangerous if not used properly. X-setup does provide a "way out", but your best bet is to follow standard, common sense guidelines before using it or any similar utility:
1) Always create a restore point before tweaking
2) Also create a manual backup of your registry in case System Restore fails (you can do this from within regedit or use a great tool such as ERUNT)
3) Do one tweak at a time, observe the consequesnces, and then either undo it or move on to the next tweak
4) Make a note of each tweak so you can go back and undo them at some point in the future if there are long term, unforseen, negative consequences.
Follow these guidelines and tweak away safely.
