Hi all,
I have P2 with win95. When I start computer
the diod on the screen just blinks orange for a couple times and then nothing happens,
I cann't see anything on the display.
I have checked power supply and it seems to be Ok. what can be the possible cause of this problem and how I can get rid off this or trouble shoot my machine.
Thanks in advance

It could possibly be a display driver/card problem...Try starting Windows in Safe Mode. If that works, it's likely that a display problem is the cause.

Do you see anything on the screen at all during POST e.g. memory count, BIOSmessages etc. Are there any flashing LED's on the unit or keyboard?

If not then there are many problems that can cause this. I would try the following:

1. Ensure that the video card and monitor cable are connected properly.
2. Open the unit and verify that the memory, processor and any other plug in cards are seated properly.
3. Make sure that all cables are connected properly.

If it is still not working then remove the IDE cables and power cables from the hard drives and floppy drive. Take out any plug in cards except the video. If you have more than one DIMM then remove them one at a time leaving only one in the system at any one time.

If it is still failing with just the video and one memory stick and processor then the problem lies with the processor, the motherboard or the power supply.

Cheers
Andy

Been awhile since I used Win95, but I believe it's one of the function keys. I believe it's F8 (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and you press the key as soon as you see "Starting Windows 95..." when you are either first powering up the PC or restarting it..A DOS-like menu will pop up with the option to start Windows in Safe Mode...

Hope this helps,

David
