I have been running windows me for over 2 years on my laptop and have heard that if you do a clean re-install, it runs much better. I have the recovery disks that came with the laptop - can I use these to re-install the operating system? If so, is there a checklist somewhere to follow.
Thanks in advance,
bvermont

Yes you can use the recovery cds. I'd test them out first to make sure you have the correct ones for that laptop and that they are working correctly. You don't have to go through the recovery yet, just start it to make sure that it's workable then cancel out.
Also, it would be prudent to contact the seller of the laptop to acquire any needed information from them before moving forward.
Do a search on google.com using these words
installation checklist for ME
As for a default checklist, I'd check at microsoft.com, They may have one available.
Back up all of your needed files/data to another networked pc or cd-rom burner. If the files aren't too large, you could also attach them to an email and then send them to yourself. If the email client is not web based, make sure to activate the option in the email software to leave a copy of the email on the server itself. There's other ways to backup your data.

Patrick,
I've never heard of (What a surprise! - Not!) backing up your files by emailing them to yourself. If you don't have much to backup, like me, that's an absolutely stupendous idea. I even have a web based email to send them to.
Thanks for the idea,

Thanks Nana. Yes, I have 11 email accounts (web based) through my ISP. I only use 3 of them. So I use the other 8 as my backup bins.
