HiYa ALL !! I`ve just installed a "two sided"stik of 512MB ram. There was 256mb ram already installed, add them together I`m supposed to have a total of 768MB Ram! Now i`ve checked my system info+ it`s saying its only got 512mb ram . Have i missed a procedure or step kinda new at this ? Thanx in advance Dean :)

Did you try removing the 256MB module and check the size again?

Do you get the full measure at POST/bootup? It may be a per-slot limit of the motherboard of 256MB each and it can't be changed. Did you check the book for the motherboard?

There also is an issue with Win98/ME and more than 512MB memory.

I have exactly the same problem on my 98SE machine.

The first thing you should do is check your Mainboard manufacturers site and make sure that you have the most recent BIOS. Earlier versions may not have supported the more recent RAM sizes.

Swap the chips around into different slots.

Try one, try both (as suggested above), try both in different slots....any permutation that you can think of... Does the memory check see 512mb (on it's own) as 512?

If none of this works then you're in the same boat as me!! I have 768mb RAM on here and the machine only sees 368 mb....I'll watch this post with interest..

BTW...my new RAM was really cheap...and I think this is probably the main cause of my dilemma!! The machine has been very unstable since I put it in!! I just can't be bothered taking the side off and taking it out...too busy!

Good Luck, let me know how you get on
