How do you know it's 20 GB? go to start/run type in command and hit enter. At the prompt type fdisk and hit enter. Select Y for large disk support. Choose 4 to display information. What is it showing there exactly? It should look something like this...
Display Partition Information
Current fixed disk drive: 1
Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes System Usage
C: 1 A PRI DOS WIN98 2047 FAT16 5%
2 EXT DOS 36123 95%
Total disk space is 38170 Mbytes (1 Mbyte = 1048576 bytes)
The Extended DOS Partition contains Logical DOS Drives.
Do you want to display the logical drive information (Y/N)......?[Y]
Press Esc to return to FDISK Options
Did you have NT installed previously or Linux? Is or was there a 3rd party partition manager installed? If so, what is the name of it? Be specific.

Your description tells us that you have a C: partition (probably FAT 16 file system). The easiest way to use the remaining free space is to create an extended partition using all the remaining free space. Then create logical drives out of that free space (ie: D: E: etc..) You should create the partitions using the FAT32 file system (which auto occurs when you select Y for large disk support at the entrance to Fdisk). So you could create a D drive using all of the remaining 18 GB of free space. or create D drive with 9 GB of free space and an E drive of 9 GB of free space. It's up to you to determine how you want to divide up the remaining free space. After you create the logical drives in the extended partition you must format those drives before they can be used. Alternatively, you can forgo the FDISK operations and use a 3rd party partition manager to add the remaining free space to the c: drive (if the c: drive is a FAT 32 file system).
