All of a sudden, I lost internet connection. I thought it was my router. So, I unplugged and plugged directly into the cable modem. Still no job.
Then the technican came and replaced the network card, and everything was okay.
However, when I plugged back my router, I am still not getting any internet connection. I tried a couple of pcs. I am getting the same error "Please check if you have internet connection" Something like that.
I checked all the lights, they seem to be fine. I used it as a hub and works okay. However, it just can't detect internet connection. I plugged all the cables into the right connection, check all the cables. The cables are good going to cable modem directly. I used DHCP for both direct connection and router. It just does not detect any internet connection...
Do you think my Router is cooked?? When I hooked it up, the activity lights on both cable modem and router seemed flashing normally.
What do you think my problem is? The router is dead???
I am using linksys 4 port router .BESFR41

thanks.. I downloaded it and didnt do the installation yet. I will do it tomorrow. By the way, how do you upgrade the firmware? Do I need to connect directly to the internet first, or just use the network cable to the router?
Please advise
Thanks for your help

There is a procedure to run the downloaded file. There is either a readme file that will unpack or there's an explanation on the site. It's really very simple and straightforward. The router should be connected in its "normal" manner (as it would be if it were working properly).

What about unplugging the cable modem, plugging it into the router and then plugging the modem back in. I don't know much about this stuff, but that is always what I do 1st when I have a problem.

that is of course the first thing I would do.. thanks for trying to help anyway...
Basic stuff.. reboot, reset.... (applies to all machines)
Advance stuff, doing it manually.
Difficult stuff....still trying to figure it out..

I thought it was my router. So, I unplugged and plugged directly into the cable modem.
I wouldn't have expexted this to work anyway, unless you are running MAC cloning on the router, as the MAC address would then have changed.
When the tech. came and installed a new card did he get on the phone to 'HQ' and give them a new MAC address?...This is probably what I would check..
Go into the router config page http://192.168.1.1
and then check the status tab. Find the MAC address listed and then get onto the cable helpline and check that it is listed there correctly...
Hopefully it won't be and you'll find the solution to your problem..
Good luck

The tech came, he just replaced the nic card. that's it and it worked directly. So, it must be something with the router. The router was able to resolve local address like 192.168.1.xxx, but not to the internet (that day).
Anyway, for some reason, this morning, I tried again without doing anything difference. My router works again. I have no idea why!!! It's very strange. I was doing the exact same thing yesterday. This morning, I only did once. (unplugged, plugged back, reset, power on and off modem and router and all that) It resolves directly without me inputting it manually.
Anyway, thanks for reading and trying to help.
By the way, I upgraded the firmware. I still go no response to server, but after I rebooted it and it worked fine...
Strange indeed.......

So if I understand correctly, after updating the firmware and then rebooting everything worked?

No, first I wanted to update firmware, no good, not getting responded from server.
Then I reboot the machine, works okay with the internet, then I upgraded the firmware.. and everything works okay. I was able to geto 192.168.1.1 Before I couldn't.

Okay - well, as long as everything is working now. Good luck /images/forums/icons/smile.gif
