Hello.

I have only recently installed Windows XP proffessional on both of my computers. Prior to this the network was working (Win98). Now it appears to be that the network cable is broken, but I recently had a LAN session at a friends house who has Windows 2000 using the same cable.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is occuring?

Ontop of that, the other computer seems to think that there is no sound device, but maintains that "the device is working properly"... I am told I need to "install the mainboard" but I;
A. wouldnt know where to start

and

B. Am confused, as the computer runs games and videos perfectly (minus sound :/ ) ...(wouldn't I need my mainboard to already be installed to do that?)

Any help would be appreciated :)
Thanks.

Hiya Plur...

Not sure about the soundcard problem, maybe reload the drivers, if still no success try removing the card in device manager and rebooting. Hopefully XP will see it as new and install it properly.

As for your network problem the first thing I would check is if the XP firewall enabled? If so then it needs turning off...I had a similar problem and this turned out be the reason.

Good Luck, post back if this doesn't fix anything.
