Hi All... I am new to this forum... but am in desperate need of assistance. My husband has recently installed a new DSL modem (since DirectvDSL shut down) since that time we have been unable to make our router (linksys BEFSR11) and the new DSL modem work together. We have 4 computers in our network, which has worked just fine up until this point. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
One thing I'd suggest is downloading & installing the latest firmware from Linksys. It may or may not help with the problem, but it won't hurt.

Another possibility is how your ISP allocates the ip address. If it is dynamic (changes all the time) then make sure the router offers the capability to accept dynamic ip assignment on the Wan side and then configure the Lan side (your home network) with NAT. If the IP is static (never changes) then configure the Wan side with the static ip address from the ISP and then configure the Lan side as NAT. All of these step take place within the software that is used to configure the router.
If the ISP allocates dynamic and If the router doesn't handle dynamic assignment on the Wan and the firmware update (as Allan's pointed out)doesn't change the routers capabilities, contact the maker of the router. If they don't have a solution, you will have to purchase another router that is compatible with the new ISP setup.

Hi Pat. I use an SR41 and I believe the whole SR series handles dynamic IP addresses. It's pretty much a foolproof little plug & play unit.

Hey Allan,
Thanks for the heads up. Last year I helped a friend setup us his cable connection and it was the first time Ive ever seen a router with dynamic capabilites. Routers these days are really impressive.

Amazing how far the technology has come, isn't it? And the prices keep coming down!

You said it. memory and hard drive, vid cards an on and on. I just built a system this fall buying name components at a local pc store. Everything, for under $500.00. I did go for AMD instead of intel though.
