View Full Version : AOSS Won't Boot from CD

I have burned this disc several times. I can boot it properly on a computer at work, but it won't boot on mine at home. The CD drive is activated in BIOS to be the first boot selection, and will boot to my windows install disc if it is in the drive.

After the introductory BIOS screen appears, the CD reads for a few seconds, then just stops. The computer does not proceed any farther. I let it attempt to load all night, and in the morning, found it just setting with no improvement.

I am running an ASUS M2N-SLI with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core processor 4600+

Any suggestions? Do I need additional drivers installed on the CD?

Hey Mark,

Are you able to boot with another boot up CD to test if this works.

I have come cross a similar thread: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=196.

However, since you have been successful with your work computer, it seems that the CD is not the problem. It looks like theres something to do with the BIOS settings.

Hi Chippa,

You are correct, the CD boots from a computer at work and runs properly. My BIOS is configured to boot from the CD drive first and does boot into the windows install disk if it is in the drive. I don't know what additional BIOS settings may be needed.

Thanks,

Mark

Also to confirm something, are you using Windows XP. As stated from the PC Tools website that AOSS will only support Windows NT/XP (32bit).

Hi Petertron5000,

I am using Windows XP 32 bit Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Thanks,

I have now downloaded and burned the image of the newest file. It does boot up part way, but then I am getting this error:

<0> Kernal panic - not syncing: attempting to kill init!

Is there any other info provided in the error message you are receiving? as this does not provide much info.

Can you also run the 'Support' feature and attach the file?

Sorry, I can not run the support feature. It starts up and arrives at this screen within seconds.

Is the error message only displaying "<0> Kernal panic - not syncing: attempting to kill init!". Is there anything else with this message?

Here is a picture of the screen. I am running the disc right now on my wifes machine, and it is working fine. On my machine, it does not show the EULA,

Thanks,

Mark

Since it is possible to boot physical computer using VHD file using custom boot loader, it may be possible to boot boot-able ISO image.
VHD - it is possible on physical computer to create and map VHD and install Win7 in VHD instead of disk partition using diskpart during setup, so your OS is isolated from other files. Altough i havent tested how big is performance hit.
