Ive been useing a win ME machine for some time on a private network with file sharing.

I have since upgraded the machine and am now running WinXP. Ive since discovered the limited no. of concurrent connections allowed which is becomeing a pain. Can I increase the no. of connections allowed ? or is there any software that can be used that would act as a server on my system ? easy and cheap would be nice, not a lot of cash left after buying the new hardware.
I see you can change the no. of concurrent connections in 98 and ME, but cant find any info on XP

don't get confused between concurrent connections - which refers to 'seats' (e.g. workstations), and users (people).
nt/2k/xp boxes are domain members, 98 can only be guests.

and you can only configure concurrent connections on servers - not me/95/98 pcs or nt/2k/xp workstations.

There is no way to get around the limited number of concurrent connections built into the OS. If this was possible then there would be no reason for the Server editions of Windows. If you need more than the 5 on Home and 10 on Pro then you will either need to buy W2k or 2003 Server or setup a linux box.
