I have two pcs, one at home and another at office. I need to transfer data from each other, frequently. so, is their any way to connect two pc through dialup modem without internet and any other hardware support.
both pc are installed with win 98 and sm 56 motorola modem

Yes there is.

On the home pc, go to control panel/add-remove programs/windows setup tab/communications component. Add a checkmark to dialup server. After it's installed go to the Start button/help/index tab and paste in dialup servers. Follow the instructions to setup the dialup server.

Make sure to change default to PPP and uncheck require encrypted password.


On the office pc create a dialup connection using your home phone number. The name and password should be the username that is currently logged into the pc at home and the password should be the password that was assigned to the dialup server connection at home.
