After installing the Audigy 2 soundcard (which was problematic) dxdiag canīt display information on DirectSound etc and will freeze when trying to display info on DirectSound, DirectMusic etc. (which I take means that DirectX doesnīt recognise the Audigy). Also MS MediaPlayer canīt play audio CDs (it will also freeze) but the MS CD player can.
I have all the latest drivers for the Audigy card and the latest DirectX version.
Any idea what the problem might be?

a few things...
1. was there a different soundcard installed before ? if so were the relevant uninstalls done and devices/drivers removed ?
2. are there entries for resource allocation in autoexec.bat and config.sys which conflict with win98 pnp ?
3. were any previous drivers replaced/removed properly - i.e. stopping all tasks to do with audio e.g. mixer etc ?
4. were the new drivers installed with the same consideration as to 3. ?
5. they might be latest but are they win98 ?
6. did you opt to download the instructions for installing the drivers and read then follow them ?

Answer to your questions
1. yes there was an older SBLive soundcard, and yes I have tried to uninstall all drivers/devices using info from Creative (forums, chat etc) but that has been a problem and I am not certain, I have done uninstall, manually removed certain files according to info from Creative, used a special driver uninstall program from Creative and have manually removed entries from the registry.
2. no not to my knowledge
3. See 1.
4. What do you mean?
5. I donīt know but since CD player works I guess they are
6. I have closely followed all instructions from Creative.
I have since also checked Device Manager and there all is OK.
The advice I got from Creative was to reinstall Windows but I would like to know a little bit more first what is going on.

I am also in a battle with Creative, but over a PCI512 that freezes my system. I am sure they followed the same flowchart with you that they did with me. I formatted my hard drive and the problem is still there. They told me to update my bios; did that. My system is an AMD K6/2 500. Thinking that it was my old system, I installed it in a Pentium 4 running Win ME. With different drivers on a different machine, the same problem existed. My problem is DEFECTIVE CREATIVE HARDWARE and they will not accept that. Good luck.
