My system takes an absolute age to boot for some reason, and when it does only 22% system resources are left... also my CPU load is constantly 100% according to several different diagnostic tools...

does anyone know hwat might be up? the following is info from msinfo32 that u might or might not find useful...

**STARTUP PROGRAMS**

*StateMgr c:\windows\system\restore\statemgr.exe
HPDJ Taskbar Utility c:\windows\system\hpztsb04.exe
IntelliPoint c:\progra~1\micros~1\mouse\point32.exe Startup
IrMon irmon.exe
LoadPowerProfile rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,loadcurrentpwrscheme
LoadPowerProfile rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,loadcurrentpwrscheme
MSConfigReminder c:\windows\system\msconfig.exe /reminder
MULTIMEDIA KEYBOARD c:\program files\netropa\multimedia keyboard\mmkeybd.exe
NAV DefAlert c:\progra~1\norton~2\defalert.exe
New.net Startup rundll32 c:\progra~1\newdot~1\newdot~1.dll,newdotnetstartup
NvCplDaemon rundll32.exe nvqtwk,nvcpldaemon initialize
NVIEW rundll32.exe nview.dll,nviewloadhook
nwiz nwiz.exe /install
ScanReg c:\windows\scanregw.exe /autorun
SchedulingAgent mstask.exe
SystemTray systray.exe
TaskMonitor c:\windows\taskmon.exe
TCASUTIEXE tcaudiag.exe -off
Tweak UI rundll32.exe tweakui.cpl,tweakmeup
UpdReg c:\windows\updreg.exe

There is also a list of loaded modules a mile long...

I am by no means a computing newbie but am a bit stumped why my resources should be so low at atartup and why my cpu load is always so high.

incidentally my system is:

dell dimension 8100 128mb RAMBUS ram, 20gb hd, P4 1.4ghz.

Try test and elimination.

Go to start/run type in msconfig and click ok. Move to the startup tab and uncheck 1 item. Reboot. Continue through the list until you identify the resource problem.

Do you know how that New.net Startup rundll32 c:\progra~1\newdot~1\newdot~1.dll,newdotnetstartup got there? The websites I have seen about it say it is usually installed without your knowledge and is a huge security issue, running arbitrary code from the mothership:

It usually comes with P2P programs, very often Kazaa.

The best thing to do is go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs, and uninstall "New.Net (domains)"

Unlike is the case with many other 'foistware' programs, the New.Net uninstaller works fine.

ok ive found the problem. the software used to monitor my IR connection for my nokia 7650... cpu load dropped immediately and resources ate now at 82% at bootup... cheers.

incidentally yes i did know about new.net. i installed it voluntarily, a couple of people i know have decided to have new.net domains for some reason and the sites didnt work without the plugin =p
