View Full Version : Starting in a Loop (W98)

Hi there still got a couple of teething problems, the latest is to do with my machine shutting down. When I hit "Shut Down" it now shuts down & instantly restarts, also the same thing happens if I hit "Restart in Dos Mode" it restarts, it's quite annoying /images/forums/icons/mad.gif I've been trying to figure out the settings in the bios (I'm thinking thats the problem) I don't have a book for it & cant find one anywhere.

The strangest thing is if I hit Restart the thing hangs at a flashing "-" (without "") on a black screen. . . . . .

I've tried disabling the fast shutdown in MSConfig\Advanced

Please can anyone help /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif fix this problem

Yeehaa Dan /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif Thanks very much for your great link.... I went there & did a bit of reading to find out that Win98SE needs a small 500kb update adjustment to make it able to restart properly & fix a problem in its shutdown.... A small drama but totaly fixeable
Anyway I downloaded it & installed it & then on my very first Restart & Shutdown it was fixed at last.

It makes such a difference when we fix something that isn't running right on our computers!

When we fix it it's a real bonus, now I'm happy /images/forums/icons/smile.gif
