For some reason, explorer has started opening up new windows really small. This is annoying and I want to set it bcak to open screens in full screen. I've tried various settings including:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main FullScreen="yes"
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Document Windows Maximized="yes"
Cant seem to find anything on this site when searching. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
cheers!

First of all, you should probably reset your Internet Explorer window size. To do this, simply go the the registry key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] and delete the setting "Window_Placement." After you've done that, open a new window of internet explorer, press F11, and then close it. You should find your solution with this.

there may be a bit of confusion here, so to clarify...
F11 toggles between window view and full screen.
the double square button at the top rt hand corner of the window toggles window size between max and normal.
max window is similar (but not identical) to full screen.
normal window size is adjustable by cursor arrows when in that mode.
properties of the shortcut icon of the browser (e.g. on quicklaunch taskbar), has 'run' options of max, normal and min....and it opens in the chosen mode.

I do not believe it to be possible to have new windows open 'maximized' (unless Mosaic1 knows of a way :)
The best that can be done is a resized window as large as you can make it.
To make it stick there are a couple of methods that do not involve the registry.
1. Open the browser (first window) and then open a new window.
Resize the second window to the size you want and then close out (exit) the first window so the only open window is the resized new window.
Close it.
The next time you open a new window it should be the size it was when you closed it.
2. Right click on a bare spot of this webpage and select "Create Shortcut"
This will place a desktop shortcut to this page.
Close IE completely.
Open the new desktop shortcut.
Drag the title bar to the top left of the screen.
Place the cursor over the lower right corner to get the double arrows; click and drag the window to the bottom right. (The better sizing now the better)
Hold down the left Ctrl key and close the window by clicking the X in the top right corner.
Right click on the shortcut and select Rename.
Name it to: frm2new.htm
Move this file to C:\Windows\Web
If you find some day that the new window is not behaving simply open the frm2new.htm file within C:\Windows\Web folder and resize it again.
I have used this method and have not needed to resize the New window in over a year and a half.
Both methods above work good but not "Maximized"

I promise you, it is as simple as this....
1. close all IE windows.
2. rt-click IE quicklaunch (or a shortcut created to point to the IE desktop icon..basically just to get to properties), click properties, shortcut tab, set RUN to 'maximised' selection. close.
3. open IE using what was altered in 2. above.
4. it will open maximised.
5. all new windows will open so as to duplicate the window from which it was opened. e.g. minimise the window, file, new, window......to get a mimimised new window...and so on......although regardless of all that, the shortcut to open IE will always produce an initial maximised window, if step 2. is in place!!!

dmease,
When the windows opens, drag the borders, top, right, bottom, and left to the size you want (almost filling the entire screen). DO NOT use the maximize button.
Now choose File>Close, DO NOT use the X in the top right corner. Go back to the page you just opened the new one from, choose View>Refresh and now click the link again, it should open to the size that you just closed it from.

I fully agree that altering the IE Quicklaunch Run line to = Maximized will cause any instance of IE to open the maximized when opening the instance using the QuickLaunch icon. This has no effect on any subsequently opened "New Window".
One of the things I like about Windows or MS products is that there are usually several different methods to perform a task.
In the case of IE windows I find some methods less permanent than others.
reghakr's method works good too until a pop up shows up and alters the new window's settings.
The two methods I offered are specifically for the "New Window" settings.
I personally have used the frm2new.htm method through IE5, 5.1, 5.5 and 6. I have not had to alter the file after upgrading to the higher versions of IE either.
Either way, the "New Window" does not or will not open "Maximized". It will only open to a resized window size. To test it simply look at or click the maximize button in the top right hand corner of the "New Window" if it is not greyed out then it can be further maximized. If it is greyed out then it is already maximized.
By creating the frm2new.htm you are providing information to IE on how to set the size of the new window.
Another person whom visits this forum had provided this method in November of 2000. I have gleefully used it since. In this time span I have had to reset it it twice and not in over a year and a half.
The first method I offered is good too but again not as permanent. It is also the current, popular, prescribed method.

I thought that I did say just that......a new window will open as a duplicate of the one used to perform that action....regardless of RUN = maximised configured for the quicklaunch IE icon....
the shortcut starts with a page of dimensions specified to start a session, whilst file, new, window, simply duplicates. e.g. if within an IE session you have 2 windows open with different dimensions, then opening a new window will produce one of a size which depends on which of the 2 is used.

No, I do not think so.
The only window that will open maximized is the one that is opened by clicking on the IE icon in the Quick Launch toolbar.
Opening a new window form within it will not open 'maximized'.
If you were to open another window using the same icon of course it will open to your hompage and maximized. Naturally it will not have that new window url open with it.
You can open more than one instance of IE but you can not open a 'new window' from within any instance of IE as maximized.
One could type in the url of another webpage in the second instance address bar to get to the next page with the window still being maximized.
Sorry if I am not making this understandable.
