Adding text to your ie toolbar
Not one of the best ways to add text to ie…but hey it still works!!
use at own risk...

This registry trick can be used to change the “links” folder path to a folder of your own in favorites or add text to the toolbar using an empty folder

Go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

Locate the string “LinksFolderName”
If it isn’t there then create a string called “LinksFolderName”
Right click on the string and go to modify
Here you can add your own message like “I was here” or you can add the name of a folder in your favorites like “Media” or “My stuff”…
Then go to Internet Explorer and right click somewhere on the toolbar
Make sure “links” is checked
The text you typed should appear somewhere on the toolbar…
To move it around, right click on the toolbar and deselect “lock the toolbars”
Move your text around then select “lock the toolbars”
If you added your own text, there should be a folder named “your-text-here” in favorites..
always remeber to restart otherwise ie starts playing up...

And you’re done…

If you want to change the “links” folder path back.. go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
And change the value of “LinksFolderName” back to “links”

Is that simply text or is it a clickable folder?

In your .bmp it appears to be in the Menu bar rather than the Links bar.

I use the links bar to maintain folders that contain many links by going to Favorites, Organize Favorites, highlight Links and click on the Create folder button. I can name it anything I like.

Would this be the same thing?

sorry, i was kinda in a hurry...i should have explained it more...

use this only if you dont use the "links" folder (C:\windows\favorites\links)

this registry tweak can be used to add text to the ie toolbar or change the path of the links folder within favorites (C:\windows\favorites\links)

if you open your favorites folder you should see another folder called "links" that comes default with internet explorer. It contains links such as msn.com, best of the web, and microsoft.com

some people (like me) dont use this folder, so by using the registry we can change the path of that folder to another folder within favorites..

-=Changing the path of the "links" folder=-
just say you're in internet explorer and want to browse something in your "C:\Mystuff" folder

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
And change the string "linksfoldername=links" to
"linksfoldername=C:\MyStuff"
It will change the path of the links folder in favorites (C:\windows\favorites\links) to (C:\MyStuff)

Now click somewhere on the ie toolbar and <a target="_blank" href=http://www.angefire.com/film/tsss/links.bmp>select links</a>
You will see "C:\MyStuff" appear on the toolbar..
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.angelfire.com/film/tsss/exap.bmp>pic here</a>

-=Adding text to the toolbar=-
Use this to customize ie by adding your own text
note: this is just plain text....

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
And change the string "linksfoldername=links" to
"linksfoldername=I WAS HERE!!!"

Now click somewhere on the ie toolbar and <a target="_blank" href=http://www.angefire.com/film/tsss/links.bmp>select links</a>
You will see "I WAS HERE!!!" appear on the toolbar..
<a target="_blank" href=http://www.angelfire.com/film/tsss/inact.bmp>.:pic here:.</a>

All this does is point "links" to an empty folder called "I WAS HERE!!!"
Meaning that it only shows the folder name because there is nothing inside...this may not seem a practical way to add text, but it still works...

hope that cleared a few things up for you..
