hi people,

A friend of mine had a problem with our network (Banyan Vines), so I installed my networkcard on his notebook. At the moment I had installed it and changed the network settings, all internet related programs started to crash at the moment they would attempt to connect. I've deleted the files related to my own networkcard afterwards and restored the original network settings, but the error (which seems to be at the same registry address for all the programs) kept occurring. I've removed all of the networksettings and reinstalled the drivers for his networkcard, but that hasn't helped either. Can anyone please help me?

try checking the startup files with sysedit.

Press the F8 key on bootup (just before the windows splash screen appears). Choose 5 Command Prompt. At the Prompt type scanreg and hit enter. Restore the registry to a date before the change was made.

If Mr. O'Brien's suggestion doesn't work, you can go to device manager and remove the network card. Then reboot and Windows will find the "new" device and, hopefully, you can point it to the correct drivers.

Thanks a lot for the advises. My friend had decided to format the C drive instead and reinstall Windows, before I could tell him about your suggestions (I had already tried some of them..)
For sure that also solved the problem :), though he does have to do without some programs now.
Once again, thanks a lot for your efforts!!
