View Full Version : registry keys for file transferring

I have a problem at my office pc IBM pentium 100 and precharged Win95: I ran a registry compressor that needed a backuped reg file and I resetted imprudently the pc at the rebooting, so I missed its registry (now it is 780 KB instead of the original 3,6 MB).
So this corrupted registry doesn't allow me to transfer files from pc (the important documents that I need).

I can only transfer from floppy.

Reinstalling Win95 probably it is the solution, but why before starting reinstalling I have the advice of backuping the files?

Is there any chance of missing my documents?

So I turned on the possibility to import a reg file from another near equal pc of the local network: it is similar and has the difference of the network settings, printers and some programs, but this would be not important, once I could transfer safely my documents.

I would note that the imported reg file has not the hive HKEY Current Config... as showed from viewing the registry from the imported reg file pc, is it that this hive and probably other keys, it is charged lively from the running pc?

I am also thinking of adding to the corrupted registry only the keys, value, etc. , which will allow me the transfer of files to floppy, do you know where to find all these exact infos?

What would you suggest?

An answer would be of the most resolutive help.

Thanks in advance.

if all you are really after is getting those doca off, then probably the easiest way is to physically remove the drive and temporarily put it as a slave drive on a working pc, and transfer them that way.

Thanks misterywolf.

I never do a thing like this, so if I put this HD (with damaged Win95) as a slave drive in a working pc, the operative system (Windows Millennium or Windows 98, among those I can choose) of the master drive allow me to see and transfer from the slave drive?

Would it work this way?

Thanks again.

Bye.

providing the documents are not damaged it seems the easiest way to me.

Hello, misterywolf.

I solved the problem backuping the document files from DOS.

I am not actually able to transfer the HD to another pc, so I tried the DOS chance.

However, thanks.
