Right-click on the title bar of Explorer (View Details mode) RHS window results in a drop-down of various attributes/data items that may be optionally displayed.

Is there a way to add in to that list (and of course subsequently to select) the MS-DOS filename or 8.3 format filename?

If the answer to that is NO - then the more general question is ... Can Explorer be persuaded to display the 8.3 filenames? This would greatly benefit those with indispensible 16-bit programs (that can only handle 8.3 style paths/filenames) while they are still waiting for the 32-bit equivalent program to appear.

(Even File Properties under XP has 'lost' the display of 8.3 filename, so DIR /x in a Command Prompt is the labour-intensive fallback)

You don't mention your upgrade, which I have to believe that you had a computer that you were using for your" indispensible 16-bit programs" and such an old machine won't run XP.

If you have indispensible programs, that were written for win 3.11 or dos, then DON'T dispense with the hardware that ran your program. Have 2 computers, or more. If you have to have only one newest computer, try to find a different, modern program to do what you need done.
