I have a home network consisting of a Linksys WAP+cable/dsl router/4 port switch. Two desktops are hardwired ethernet 10/100 cards (run XP) and my laptop is wireless (w98).
All computers work on the network, but the oldest desktop (Gateway G6-450) takes 15 to 20 seconds everytime Explore is used or anytime a program opens a file. Eventually my network neighborhood appears. The other computers see the network, including the Gateway, with no problems.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

If the old pc alone without all other pcs turned on, would it be running at a normal/fast speed?

Has the older PC got WXP installed?

The old computer has WXP installed. Sorry for the delay, but I was away on business.

upgrade the firmware on the router and make sure that all WAP adapters are made from the same vendor and are the same version.
