I am trying to view my images from my dig. camera in the software I was given. The software was installed fine it's all on my computer. I have also installed a current USB driver for the camera/computer. I have followed the directions to a tee. THe camera has been on the right settings and everything but it is not recognizing at all that the computer is connected to the camera. I am almost positive I have the cable in the right USB slot in the back....but it's not recognizing the new hardware at all. What is the deal!?

I assume you're using Windows 2000?

If so, does the camera show up as a mounted volume in my computer i.e. as e: or f: for example.

Sometimes you won't see any new hardware detected messages and the camera will be identified okay.

Check device manager to see if the camera is identified under the USB controllers.

I have seen this often and each time it was because the install procedure was not done in the correct order as per the instructions. Usually once in the loop this causes the only way out is to uninstall the camera software/drivers/devices etc totally and do it over again. usually the order is this...
1. ensure usb device is NOT connected.
2. install usb driver software that came with camera. plug in device when prompted.
3. install app software.

No the camera doesn't show up as a mounted volume. It doesn't seem to be recognizing it at all. How do I go about checking the device manager?

Goto start > run and type devmgmt.msc. This will launch device manager and you will see all the devices listed. Click on the + sign next to the USB controllers and you will see what devices are installed. Make sure the camera is in the USB port and is powered on.
