800 MHZ Pentium III
GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3
128MB RAM
65% system resources free
Windows-managed swap file on drive C (17153MB free)
Available space on drive C: 17153MB of 19059MB (FAT32)

That's information regarding my computer. The problem is, the last time I had Windows 98 SE installed on my comp, it would boot in less then 30 seconds. Now... It takes a full minute to load during the dos part. Its just so long, does anyone know why and how I can speed that up?

Hmmm... I don't think I know how to go about it properly. What should I enable and disable? I tried disabling all of them, but it still took a minute and it made Windows look uglier. Anyone else know?

Run msconfig and do a selective startup (disabling everything from starting). If the boot process is then normal begin adding items back one at a time until the problem recurs. You will then have identified the culprit.

Thanks for the help. I'll give it a try. But for some reason I doubt that's my current problem. My computer takes a long time during the "DOS" part of the loading, where the diagnostics are displayed. My windows once loaded with the mouse cursor enabled for me to move with loads in less then 5 seconds. Its the part before that takes a long time to load.

Try going into your BIOS (press DEL during startup in most cases) and browse around for an option for Quick Boot. Enable that if possible. Also, try setting your Hard Drive to be the first boot device, rather than your Floppy or CD Drives.

Where exactly in the BIOS would this "Quick Boot" option be available?

Not sure exactly. All BIOS screens are not the same. But when I get home tonight, I can tell you where I find mine. I have an Asus board and Award BIOS.

On an FIC board and an AZZA board with Award BIOS it is listed as Quick Power On Self Test on the BIOS Features Utility screen. On a Gigabyte board and Tyan board with AMI BIOS it is listed as Quick Boot in the BIOS Features Setup.

Is the machine on a LAN, if not then remove all the networking stuff, often Windows takes around 20 seconds to determine that no network exists.
