I have a Pocket PC device that connects via USB. MS Active Sync fails to come up, and gives the message TCP/IP Transport not installed. I went to the add/remove programs and re-installed TCP/IP and it worked for a while, then the problem reappeared. I am using TCP/IP to talk to the internet - don't understand why the Pocket PC device can't use it.

Thats odd... you would need TCP/IP to connect and communicate with others on the net. Most everyone uses TCP/IP... So we need more info here. What Brand is this PDA and what OS did it come with?

It's an iPAQ (Compaq) Model 3650 running Pocket PC v3.0. The system I am synching with is a Sony VAIO laptop with docking station, PCG-R505JSP running XP Professional.

reads like there's a problem with your drivers for your hardware. TCPIP usually works fine. I'd spend your energy on the driver problem(s).

like win98 only one instance of tcp can exist. so when you connect to the internet tcp/ip becomes assigned for that function.

technet Q184223 might provide useful info.
