wut is the format to creating .reg files?

It's pretty straight-forward. I suggest opening regedit, navigating to some key that contains all three kinds of values--string, hex, and binary, and then exporting it to a reg file (select File>Export). Put the reg file on your desktop. Keeping your regedit window open, right-click on the reg file and select "edit"... NOT "merge". The file will be opened as a text file.

Then, sit down and study it.
