Recovering data from formatted HD

I've was running win xp, but had many problems... and formatted my hard drive with NTFS and installed win 2k. Is there any way i can recover the data that was on the drive before i formatted it?? Possibly there might be some software to do this?

There are several of recovery tools available but the only one I have used is Drive Rescue. The reformating should not present a problem but installing another OS may have overwritten some of the data that you want to recover. At least its worth a try.
