Athlon XP @ 3GHz:)
the one one Toms HW is nice too! If I could just break 3GHz, and have a Granite bay mobo.. well I'd be happy. ;)

Don't feel bad Nana. /images/forums/icons/smile.gif Clock speed isn't everything. Unless one is an avid gamer or does photo editing for a living a 1GHx CPU is nothing to sneeze at. And, if you add, say, 512MB of RAM it becomes almost respectable.
Heck, I can recall when a Pentium 233MHx with 64MB of RAM was a rocket ship. /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

Hi! Tom,
1Gh would be fast enough for me if my %^&* computer wouldn't freeze so often. I don't do much more than Surf & Turf, anyway.
Surf the net, freeze, Turf out programmes IBM told me it was likely something I installed causing me headaches. So, I've eliminated any programme that wasn't preinstalled. Guess what? I'm still Surfing, freezing but I've now run out of things to Turf.
C'est la vie,

Nana, time to rid yourself of WinME. Ask your husband to surprise you with WinXP for Valentine's Day. /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

Tom, I hate to admit that I already have XP, I've had it for 2-3 months now. It's just not installed yet. There are several mitigating circumstances preventing me from proceeding. Shame on me!

Let me count the ways. . . .
I emailed a friend - he's my son's friend, actually - on Friday to let him know it's time. He has said he will help when I'm ready. I didn't want to be pushy, so I've waited to "officially" ask him until he mentioned it again. He did that just before Christmas, so now I'm going to take him up on it.
Hubbie says I should just forget about this computer and buy a new CPU - kind of like trading in the car when the ashtrays are full, don't you think? He's right about one thing though, this #$%^ machine has been nothing but trouble since the day it was born. I am using ONLY what IBM sold to me as a package, the Net Vista 2284 62U computer, a Lexmark Z52 printer and an AGFA e50 scanner, supposedly guaranteed to work together. I have never yet been able to install the scanner. It's not just me & my inexperience becasue I've had two other experienced people try with no luck. On second thought, maybe Hubbies right.
Later,
