I go to these LAN party's a lot and everything runs great, we hook everything up with a standard hub.
When I get home and try and hook my DSL modem back up and it pulls up a netowork IP. From there I try renew/release my ip, taking out the network card and switching PCI slots, I completely format and unhook/reattach all my dsl wires and sometimes that doesn't work. Than I have to wait for my ISP to manually renew my IP (which can be anywhere from one hour to five days).
This has stumped me for a while, is there any thing I can try? Its really wierd how I can format and it still doesn't work. My only conclusion is after I try and connect it to my comp while my comp still has network settings it does something to the modem.
Right now I'm in a situation where I just brought one of my comps home and I need to put the DSL on it but network IP haunts me. I need to figure out a way to tell the computer stop looking for a network when there isn't one but the standard network settings don't give much help.
I'm using a Nortel ADSL 16/volt Power Adapter. It doesn't have a reset button on it.
