Hmmm Yes.
We need to wipe clean a users machine, but he is very reluctant. And if we can hmmm lose the registry this would be a good reason.

So you're saying there isn't a good reason?
<climbs on soapbox, fully aware of own ignorance of the situation>
If it is a machine that belongs your company or organization, then his reluctance is irrelevant. Resistance is futile. Assure him you'll save his data and proceed. No need for an excuse, its 'your' machine.
On the flip side, if it is in fact his machine, then who are you to destroy it for him, even if you believe its for his own good? Fix the problem instead of taking the easy way out and reinstalling. From what I have seen it is exceedingly rare to find something in Win2K you can't fix with a little research.
Trashing the registry to convince someone to reinstall is like running their car off a cliff to convince them its time to buy a new one. It ain't right.
