I teach a basic computer class and everytime the students change the patterns, colours, screensavers etc etc - is there anyway to lock the settings so when the computer is restarted - its restored to an set state?

a lot depends on how you set up the pc as regards users.
if you have allowed for different users the each new user gets a profile.
you could logon as the default user, setup as you want and copy that profile to a safe place. copy it back whenever you need to.
deleting any existing user profiles will mean they will be treated as new users next time and get default. ( be aware of password isues here though!).

in control panel check out users , and passwords applets and make use of the ? feature for helps.
and read the main help file section on this.
and check out policies.

and no offence but if you teach such a class it would do no harm for you to read up and get a fuller grasp of this part of win98, rather than make do with a mini-solution off a site like this....although I'm willing to help you really need a bit more.

Thanks Mysterywolf - I was aware of the profiles etc - haven't looked into them to deep but I will and see if I can hook it up.

and no offence taken - I agree that I don't know everything about windows98 but the class is on basic computers - but its extent lies on the Office 2000 products - and not in the windows environment.

Thanks
