Greetings, I think I'm in trouble. The last couple of days I am continually getting error messages during bootup concerning my Windows registry. I reformatted last night to attempt a fix but the errors are still coming up. What can I do short of reinstalling Windows? I do not have the Windows CDs just the App Recovery disks that came with the computer. Any ideas? Thanks.

More info: During startup I get this message before Windows starts; "Windows was unable to process the registry. This can be fixed by rebooting to Command Prompt only and running SCANREG/FIX. Otherwise there may not be enough free conventional memory to process the registry."
Seeing as how I'm working off of a fresh reformat there should be plenty of memory. Any help is much appreciated.

These errors are typically due to bad memory. If you have more than one DIMM in the system remove them one at a time to see if this corrects your problem.

The conventional memory area is the 0K-640K section of "normal" memory. This
area of memory is used by MS-DOS and normal application software.
that is conventional memory.....
extended memory is the rest of your ram (ignore expanded for your problem).
virtual memory is the disk.
so reformatting is no cure for that message.
at a dos prompt type MEM and see how much conventional memory is reported. it should be 640k or not much less anyhow that'is available. my guess is that you will have too much in use already....and you shouldn't have.
likely causes ( apart from memory hardware failure) is either..
1. entries in autoexec.bat and config.sys which shouldn't be there (e.g. drivers loading, himem.sys or emm386 stuff.)......rem out all lines in both files to test!
2. wrong versions of startup system files (command.com, msdos.sys, io.sys)
either use the cd to create a proper boot floppy or search the hard drive/cd for fat32ebd and use that to create one. or create a startup disk from another and good win98 pc. then boot from that floppy to SYS your system.
