I'm not sure whether this is windows or not, but a cd that i tried to load wont work. It's slightly scratched but works fine on another windows 98 computer. My cd-rom drive starts working then stalls and windows freezes.....
Know of anything??

Have you tried another CD in your rom .

Next step to isolate the problem is to try a working rom in your comp .
No need to take yours out , just connect the cable & power & sit it on something outside the case .

use a startup floppy and boot with cd support and then copy the contents of the cd to a folder on the hard disk maybe?
or physically swap cd drives between pcs to do this?
esp. if its a home-burnt cd the type chosen at burn (1 or 2 - usually it makes little difference but sometimes it matters!), can affect reading depending on age / speed of cdrom.
