Logging in to a w2k domain with a w98 wstation I get the frequent message from clients around the campus "the domain password you supplied is not correct, or access to your login server has been denied." Login can be achieved after 3 or 4 attempts, although it frustrates users. The problem is transient and appears to have no pattern. MS knowledge base article 176206 is no help.

2 things to check..

1. primary login is not 'windows login'.
2. workgroup is not default 'workgroup' but is the domain name (this is not the 'login to domain' setting but the field called 'workgroup').

thanks, we are running Netware and w2k. The primary login is netware. As I said earlier the problem comes and goes. This morning was bad and now clients are logging in fine. They log into netware and then there's a pause for a minute, then the ms login dialogue box comes up with the user name, password and domain. A user re-enters their details into the box and will get the aforementioned message. It normally takes 3 or 4 attempts before they can get in. Very frustrating!
