Hello again,
How can I prevent autodial from working --- only on my LAN connection? I am trying to isolate my LAN connection from my internet conenction for security reasons, I don't want to use Internet Connection Sharing and therefore don't need my LAN connection using the autodial feature, but would like my programs like: Trillian, etc to autodial.... My Operating system is windows XP, and I use an ethernet (Coaxial Cable) LAN Connection.... Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Maybe its just me, but I'm not following your question here. If it's a LAN connection, there is no dialing...

Hello,
That's exactly my problem. What I am referring to in my previous post is my LAN connection-----I'm sure of this. Actually, let me give you the details, maybe you can help me figure this out... Actually, I've noticed that the autodial pops up when I create a shortcut to a foxpro 6 program- it pops up after creating the shortcut and pops up immediately when I restart the computer and log-on to the same account and pops up again every five minutes or so, plus in my event viewer under the application section, whenever I restart the computer and the shortcut is present it logs this: "Type: Warning , Source:Userenv , Description: Windows cannot unload your classes registry file - it is still in use by other applications or services. This file will be unloaded when it is no longer in use." This scenario repeats itself until after I've deleted the shortcut and restarted the computer. I haven't tried this on all the programs on the network yet but when I create a shortcut to an excel file on the network, I don't get the autodial popup but I do get the same Warning Log in the application section of event viewer. Also When I access my other computer through the network place shortcut (I'm referring to the shortcut/file that can be found in the Nethood folder) automatically created by "My Network Places" I don't get the autodial popup but when I access the same computer directly, meaning through double-clicking "My Network Places>>View Workgroup Computers>>**Computer Name" (**Computer Name meaning the name of my other computer) I get the autodial popup again and it only shows me the contents after I've clicked on Cancel on the autodial popup, or when I do go ahead and dial; -- Same thing happens when I do a search on that same computer ---- After I've chosen a directory on the said computer and click on search--- I've had to click on the cancel button or go ahead with autodial before it starts searching.... There it is, sorry for the long post--- I wanted to be as clear and detailed as possible here, hope someone can help me figure this out.... Note: The other computer that I am mentioning here runs under windows 98. Also, I have unchecked QOS Pocket Scheduler and the TCP/IP Protocol on my LAN connection and am using the netbios over ipx/spx protocol instead. As I've said in my previous post, sharing between computers is working fine, I just don't want the autodial to popup for this LAN connection, but still wanna use autodial feature for my other programs... I am 99% sure that there are no programs running that would require the internet connection during the above mentioned tests. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Hello Baldrick 2,
Yes I do have a Dial-up internet connection, maybe what your asking is if I can distinguish the two and the answer is yes :). I have two connections set-up- one for LAN and one for my Dial-up, that's why I don't want to disable my autodial completely.. Plus I'm also using different protocols for each connection for security reasons--- my LAN uses netbios over ipx/spx only while my dial-up uses TCP/IP only. Hope anyone can help me figure this out. Thanks in advance.

Hello again,
I forgot to post this.... I'm not sure if this is relevant but Norton doesn't block my other computer... why is this? It was in my understanding that it blocks all network until I disable the "Windows File and Print Sharing" restriction or after I've entered the computer name in the Trusted Zone...Also Norton can't find any networks that are active when I click on the wizard... Can anyone shed some light on this?
