Now I have a Briefcase on my desktop with a folder icon & it has a new item in it Folder.htt

Can this procedure be reversed back to normal?? so that my briefcase will return to normal

never really encountered this problem before. but the easiest way to solve this problem is to copy a briefcase from another win98 PC and then paste it on your PC.

hope this helps

Hally,

Have a look at this link.</font color=blue> (http://www.winguides.com/search.php?keywords=briefcase&mode=or&target=registry&hits=25&guide=community><font) It won't solve your problem, but maybe it will give you enough info to solve it yourself.

Thanks Nana I found out how to find it in the registry & modify it myself.
Now I'm trying to put it all into practice, all is ok /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

Well Well Well. . . three holes in the ground

I can't seem to apply that to fix my briefcase, so I just thought I wonder if
I un-install Breiecase & then install again, this often fixes problems.
But, isn't there always a but, in the add\remove applet windows tab I cannot
find "Briefcase" anywhere. . .

How can I un-install Breiefcase & then re-install it back again

Any ideas please /images/forums/icons/smile.gif

Thanks in Advance

Hally,

Bad news, I'm afraid.

Cannot Uninstall Briefcase in Add/Remove Programs</font color=orange> (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q132653><font)

Actually, I deleted Briefcase from my system at one point and then added it back in one year later with no problem. Maybe try that?

Hally,

After you delete Briefcase, maybe this will work for you:

To install Briefcase after Windows 98 installation:

<font color=blue>"In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Click the Windows Setup tab; in the Components list click Accessories, and then click Details.
In the Accessories dialog box, click Briefcase, and then click OK."</font color=blue>

Good luck,

What a bummer it doesn't have briefcase in "Add/Remove Programs\ Windows tab Accessories. I don't know why unless 98SE is like that

Thanks Nana

Hi Hally, is this a program you installed in windows? I also use 98SE and I don't have a briefcase folder. Isn't that an ME thing?

Hi Bob!

It's been around since at least Windows 95.

Hi there Bob,

This is a standard Win98SE Briefcase installation, I installed it way back in feb this year but I'm starting to thing arghh get rid of it. . .
From what I learned recently Mac told me Briefcase is used for people on networks or something like that, & I dont have a network going. Apparently you can keep files updated etc with briefcase.

Its just that I used it to store a few important *.doc files in, hmmm decisions

Your best option is to forget about that old Briefcase and get yourself a new one. Click Start – Run and type this;

rundll32.exe syncui.dll,Briefcase_Create

Note; there is a chance that the above command won’t work for you, why? Ask Allah since Microsoft have hidden this command and have never documented it. which means I along with most people will never know why does it work on some computers and does nothing on others!

Jama you're a Genius /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif I tried the run command first & no joy, but I still had the old yellow folder named My Briefcase on the desktop, so I moved it to the bin.

Next I run the command again & Presto a brand spankin new Breifcase appeared Yippee /images/forums/icons/smile.gif I'm so happy now

Thanks so much Jama I'm fixed again, I will listen to dad from now on lol
