icons colours with only 16 colours (W2K)

Hi all,
i have win2k sp3. crashed a few days ago. since then the icons have switched to 16 colours but the rest of the gaphix are still in true 32-bit colour. I've reinstalled the latest ATI drivers, but still no dice. I've already tried the registry hack and also tweakui. Both didn't help either. Can anyone help?

sorry i can't help but i had the exact same problem - i had to swap grafx cards and figured it was ati vs ms issue ( directx has been a problem in the past for ati i know!).
so if you solve it please post the answer.

hmm... this poses as a dillema. should i just reinstall win2k and stick with sp2?
