Hello everyone,

Does anyone know of a decent book or software programme that will tell me which keys do what in the windows registry? I'm referring to common keys, like those belonging to the Windows OS, and maybe some hardware.

Thank you,

Dirk,

Thank you very much. I've used his site on several occasions. It's an excellent resource.

Nana,

I can recommend by Peter Hipson. I noticed he's also released <a target="_blank" href=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0782129870/qid=1038778918/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_3/102-7194033-4900959>Mastering Windows XP Registry (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0782126154/qid=1038778918/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/102-7194033-4900959?v=glance&s=books>Mastering)

Cheers

Here's a book that will teach you detailed information on the registry and how to manipulate it, check out Inside the Windows 98 Registry by Gunter Born. It also includes detailed information on .inf files.

Tom, Andy and Patrick,

Thank you, my friends, for your suggestions.

Tom, the two sites you suggested look interesting and I'll be reviewing them further.

Andy, I'm interested, and will likely buy, the XP book you mentioned. I think I should have an XP registry reference at hand when I upgrade. Soon, honest!

Patrick, last week I was looking at several registry books and I saw the one you recommended. There was such a large selection that I was at a loss. Now I'll buy that one for sure.

Thanks again, all of you.
