When I shut down my computer from Start and then Shut Down, it goes to the screen "Windows is now shutting down" like normal and then it restarts instead of shutting down. How can I fix this?
jman719,
Have a look through the WINDOWS SHUTDOWN & RESTART CENTER to see if there is anything that will help you.

This one is a toughie, the windows shutdown troubleshooter is your last option and if it doesn't help you may have to go for an upgrade,I tried a clean install(W98SE) but the problem was still present, upgraded to win2k.

well there is "windows 98 shutdown fix" file which I got from somewhere and to be honest I cannot recall where I got it from, it sure fix the problem once and for all ... it's an exe and the file size is about 1.5MB ... and it's for Win98SE ... just for a tip there is also a dialup upgrade to Win98SE available ... which can be found on the MS website.

This problem could be caused by many things. Such things could be a faulty power supply, driver conflicts, memory becoming faulty. Another odd possibility is that the system board needs cleaned with compressed air since dust can cause electronics to do very wierd things. If it's the old WIN98SE shutdown problem, then try this download http://www.data-tech.no/w98_shutd.htm. It's the WIN98SE Shutdown fix. If that doesn't work, try running a friends memory or power supply in you system to see if the problem goes away. If it does replace that part with a name brand version. If it's the power supply I recommend Enermax. If memory then try Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, Geil, Samsung and make sure it comes with lifetime warranty. Good luck.
