Here's my problem. I'm trying to defrag my hard drive. It gets about 38% through and then comes up with an error saying i have to run scandisk to fix the error and run defrag again. So, I run SD and it finds all kinds of problems, crosslinked files mostly. The files are in the folder "c:\_restore\archive". There are over 23 thousand files in that folder taking up 3GB of space. Can I delete that folder or do I need it? I'm sure i probably need it. Anyway, after SD finally finishes fixing the files, I run SD again to make sure I get a clean scan, and it comes up with no errors so I thought I would be all set. I run defrag again and again it stops at 38% telling me I have errors that SD has to fix. I then run SD again and the same errors are back and need to be fixed. It's as if defrag is making the problems return?? I've run SD in windows and DOS mode and I've also done a THOROUGH scan (2.5 hours) and it comes up clean. Can any one help with this problem. I have a DELL windows ME.

Thanks, Frank

Frank regarding your _restore folder, i was actually reading through this</font color=red> (http://www.winguides.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=genwin&Number=49152&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1><font) thread yesterday. Its a very old thread.

One of my ME machines has a _restore folder, its now up to 4GB

Try the defrag in safe mode and see if thats any better

Thanks Dan. It worked. Here's what I did. First I tried to adjust the size of the Restore folder but it didn't adjust the folder after I restarted the computer. I then went to TROUBLESHOOTING and disabled the RESTORE folder and after the reboot, the folder was empty freeing up over 3 Gigabytes of disk space. Then I enabled the RESTORE folder again. I ran scandisk and it fixed a few minor errors and then I ran Defrag and it ran fine, 100%. Thanks alot for your help, I thought this was going to be a major project but thanks to you it wasn't.
