Start menu (WXP)

Hi, does anyone know if a reg setting exists for the names in the start menu? I want to (if possible) turn off the names and just leave the icons like you can in other toolbars. Can anyone help??

I believe what the poster is asking is how to have all of the items listed in Programs show only icons without their descriptiive names (ie, SEARCH would just show the magnifying glass but not say "Search" next to it).

The other tweak is so nice, though, don't you think? Maybe he could use it anyway & pretend it's doing what he wants?

Thanks for the replies. Yes it is exactly as adg describes. I want to leave the icons but without the text labels in the start menu.

You can do this for a few of them:-
Open up your Registry and make your way to these Keys:-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f0-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f1-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f3-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

In the right panel double-click the Name "Localized String" and replace the wording with Alt 2+5+5

(Thats hold down the "Alt" key and press the numbers 2, 5, and 5 on the numbers pad)

Doing this will remove the wording of:-
Help and Suppport
Search
Run

Thanks for the tips. Worked like a treat. I also searched for more using 'Localised String'
as the parameter and found these if you are interested:

My Network Places

Administrative Tools

*Also removes the text label setting in the control panel.

Now I just need to find the setting for 'All Programs' etc and to control the
start menu size and then I have it all. Thanks again.
