I have had problems with a pc where all of a sudden the monitor suddenly appears to turn off and will not turn on until the pc is rebooted could this be a virus? Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi, what OS are you using and are you sure your antivirus is up to date? If not there's a good chance you picked up something. There is tons of virus' going around. You will need to upgrade your antivirus and run a scan. How long do you have before the screen shuts off? You could try an online scan.

I guess it's possible, but I haven't heard of it. My first thought was that it sounds more like a hardware or settings problem. I have had a similar issue which mimics what you are seeing. Turned out the computer was going into hibernate and wouldn't wake up. The only way to get it back was to reset the system.

Check your Power Management settings, both in the OS and the BIOS, and see if the system is possibly timing out and trying to hibernate. If not try to swap your monitor with another one. If it is a virus the "new" one will have the same problem. If the swap fixes it then your monitor has issues.
