Tools, Internet Options, Programs. Your preferred e-mail client may not be listed, however.

I want to add Lotus Notes...

Problem:

Lotus Notes Mail does not always display as a mail program option in
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). Specifically, when a customer
attempts to choose Lotus Notes Mail as the default mail program in IE
via View, Internet Options, Programs, Mail, "Lotus Notes Mail" does not
display as a choice.

Solution:

The option to choose Lotus Notes is controlled by the Registry. In most
cases, reinstalling Notes after Internet Explorer will resolve this
issue. However, this does not always work and the Registry might need
to be changed directly.

NOTE: The information below is presented as a guideline for making
relevant changes within the Windows Registry. The Windows Registry is
central to the operation of Windows, so any changes should be performed
with great care. As with any major configuration change, it is highly
recommended that customers have complete backups of their computer
systems before attempting the following procedure, in order to allow
recovery from system file corruption or other failures. If you require
instruction about backing up and modifying the Windows 95 or Windows NT
Registry, first contact your system administrator or reference one of
the third-party guides available for advanced Windows topics.

You can browse the Registry by using the REGEDIT program. Make sure
that you have a current backup of the Registry before running REGEDIT.
Contact Microsoft Support for assistance with this procedure if you are
unfamiliar with how to do it.

The Registry keys are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus Notes\Protocols\mailto
(Default) (value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus
Notes\Protocols\mailto\Shell
(Default) (value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus
Notes\Protocols\mailto\Shell\Open
(Default) (value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus
Notes\Protocols\mailto\Shell\Open\Command
(Default) "c:\notes\notes.exe %1"

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus Notes\Shell
(Default) (value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus Notes\Shell\Open
(Default) (value not set)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Lotus Notes\Shell\Open\Command
(Default) "c:\notes\notes.exe MAIL"
